What Is User Interface And Which Purpose Is It Used?

Interface, one of the most frequently used concepts in computer software, refers to the front page of the software running on the hardware.

What Is Interface?

The interface is a multipurpose concept used in the world of technology. Computers and hardware require programs such as operating systems and application software to function properly. This software is still the back-end of the process. The interface, on the other hand, defines a front page created with designs that bring together various graphics, text, or visuals to use this software on all hardware without any problems for users. Today, the concept of interface is usually associated with websites. However, an interface can also be considered as a hardware interface, software interface, and user interface.

What Are the Types of Interfaces?

There are many different types of interfaces. The different interfaces have been developed for the different use cases. Some of these interface types are as follows:

  • Graphical User Interface (GUI)
  • Textual User Interface (TUI)
  • Web Interface
  • Voice Interface
  • Touch Interface

What Is Graphical User Interface (GUI)?

A graphical user interface allows users to use graphical elements to communicate with a computer program or operating system. Interfaces such as graphical user interfaces convey data to users through menus, buttons, windowing systems, images, and all other graphical elements. At the same time, graphical user interfaces accept user input. Examples include the following systems:

  • Windows Operating System
  • Mac OS X
  • iOS
  • Android

What Is Textual User Interface (TUI)?

Textual user interfaces allow users to interact with hardware systems through text-based commands or scripts. Interfaces such as textual user interfaces operate in environments commonly run as command lines or terminal windows. Users can communicate with the system by typing specific commands and receiving all results in a text-based format. Examples of these systems are the following:

  • Windows Command Prompt
  • Unix/Linux terminals
  • PowerShell

What Is Web Interface?

Web interfaces run on various web browsers and allow users to access web-enabled applications. Web interfaces create interactive web pages and applications using web technologies and services such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. In these web browsers, users can access websites, online services, and services or web-based applications through these interfaces.

What Is Voice Interface?

Voice interfaces enable users to give instructions to the system or hardware involved through speech or voice commands. Voice-like interfaces evaluate and process the user's voice input using technologies and enhancements such as natural language processing and speech recognition. Voice assistants, smart speakers and audio systems, and voice command features in mobile hardware are examples of such interfaces.

What Is Touch Interface?

Touch interfaces allow users to communicate with a system or hardware through a single display that allows users to detect some touches and gestures using devices such as fingers or touch pens. Smartphones, tablets, touchscreen computers, and ATMs can have this type of interface.

What Is User Interface?

The user interface is the name given to the set of tools and the front page that enable the user to use or read complicated hardware, devices, and systems, ultimately allowing the user to use the functions of the hardware with a connected design. The user interface creates user-oriented designs. The user interface creates a tactile, auditory, or visual bridge between hardware and users. Commands, icons, windows, and buttons are examples of user interface components. Almost every software program running on hardware has a user interface. It corresponds to visual designs that enable the users of the programs to make choices. There are the main elements of a graphical user interface. We can explain these elements and features as follows:

  • Menu and menu bars
  • Tools and toolbars
  • Windows
  • Buttons
  • Other controls

The term user interface is not only used for web-based entities and mechanisms. A large number of products and services that people use in everyday life that are not Internet-based have a user interface.

What Should a Good User Interface Look Like?

A good user interface design should be user-friendly, understandable, consistent, and simple. In this case, the most important factors in user interface design are the following:

  • User Experience (User Experience/UX)
  • Visual Design
  • Navigation and Layout
  • Functionality and Performance
  • Feedback

User Experience/UX

The interaction of users with interfaces is the most important aspect of user interface design. A good interface should offer a user-friendly experience.

Visual Design

User interfaces need to be visually engaging. The color scheme and the appropriateness of using graphics are essential for a good design.

Navigation and Layout

The design needs to navigate, the user needs to be able to find what they are looking for and interact with it correctly. A lot of attention should be paid to the logical and consistent placement of menus, buttons, and navigation elements.

Functionality and Performance

One of the most important aspects of user interfaces is the functionality and performance of the design. Optimized performance makes the user interface experience much better.

Feedback

User feedback plays an important role in improving designs. For this reason, the most suitable interface for the user experience should be presented by taking feedback into account.
